Gray seal encounter

Went to sea with two German girls.

We saw a big, big, big gray seal. it had a very characteristic face. Almost scary in a way. It looks just sad. With this head. The size of a horse.

Martine decided she would wait for us at the beach. Me and Christine paddled towards it, but it ducked and disappeared.

It was a nice sunny day with a little breeze. We spent some time paddling in shallow water on the beach before we headed to Sløyken. There we went on shore to have a smell, and a sight, of the dead sperm whale that was washed up there last year.

I introduced the girls to the waves outside Sløyken, then we turned around and headed for Støa. Telling the girls a bit about local history. We continued along the beach to Andenes camping in Merket and made it all the way to Toften and the river Rambergselva before we finally deiced that this was enough and started on the return.

It was at the return we saw the big gray. Right west of Skomvær. It was so big that I first thought it was a walrus. But as C later told we, it had to be a male gray seal.

I searched the net for pictures, and those of very old - 40 years - gray males looked like this one.
